Alright, allow me to weigh in on the argument about the Darkness in the previous thread.

As it's something which applies only to apparitions, and apparitions' nature is dependent upon the perception of others, there are certain rules to which these apparitions can operate.
So long as they operate as what others perceive them to be, and their nature is not fully understood as a normal phenomena, they continue to exist.
But when they act contrary to expectations, or when they are understood, then their nature changes. If their changed nature is not compatible with a new perception (snail), then it's effectively the same as an apparition which people no longer believe in, or one which is now understood. Despite acting as a god, no one perceived Shinobu as a god.
Hachikuji began to act in a way which didn't befit a snail, and therefore began to contradict perception, but had no alternative to switch to as there was no other explanation for her existence.

Ougi exists because she is an 'unknown,' she can pretend to be just about anything because people don't really know what she is at all, except for Araragi, who has been deluding himself about her. Once Araragi realizes fully that Ougi is himself, her existence is now completely understood and she is about to vanish until she's given an alternative explanation for being an independent actor.

The hole in this theory is that Oshino would theoretically now be the reason for her continued existence, but he knows better.
Perhaps she has convinced enough people otherwise that she can exist as such an apparition? Who knows.

If I'd read the books I might be able to weigh in with a bit more evidence, but seeing as I haven't, I can't quite reconcile the above.

I honestly feel underwhelmed by this special. Most of it was merely talking (typical Monogatari, I know) but the talking revolved around exposition (why are things these way, how do we solve things, etc) and you know exposition the Nisioisin way is the very long way to say something that is in essence simple and short. There was some banter (with Mayoi mostly) but it was rehashed comedic banter, which I still enjoyed by the way. The music was also misplaced, never quite matching the scene it played with. The animation was subpar. Most of it was stillframes. I know, all Monogatari staples, but it stood out more here. At least Hanamonogatari, where the content didn't interest me, had nice/creative animation.

I guess my point is that I enjoyed the first half of Owarimonogatari way more. The content and dialogue was better. Ougi's chronological debut in the classroom, Sodachi's arc, even the 1st Servant arc had some nice moments. Asides from Hitagi Rendezvous this was basically wrapping up the story in a clean, concise, standard (read: bland) way.

We've had timeline shifts, time travel, the world being overrun, and that is just from one oddity. It's been "grand" for awhile now, it just means Nisio is branching put from just personal issues and the story has more of an overarching narrative building. After loads of books, but it is what it is.

I don't mind it as long as he keeps characterization as he always has it, which he likely will. He keeps the characters straight too.

It's because they're copy-pasting stuff from the novel, and seeing a character's thoughts all the time works fine in a novel but not as much in a show. Kizu was really the only time they attempted to take the source material and try to actually adapt it into the anime medium, for better or worse.
