It's already been discussed extensively. For HS/crunchy shit 1080 is objectively better quality because of bit rate and file size. Unless you have a toaster or bandwidth limitations etc. there's no reason to pick 720 HS over 1080 unless you admit to being a retard and like eating shit. For BDs or for literally anything that isn't HS/crunchy/ronald, with a good source video the difference is minor and depends entirely on what your setup is. If space isn't an issue 1080 is preferred for archiving.
