There's some nice subtle character animation in there, but knowing the content and Ishidate's preferences, the action scenes will be the main animation highlight. I expect the show to be the strongest in terms of production values among the studio's recent TV outings. The studio seems to be shifting towards higher detail and more realistic character animation.

The biggest concern is probably that they may end up ruining anime like we know it.
They enter the market with giant pockets filled with money that would allow animators to actually get paid decently.
Which in and of its own is not a bad thing, but the risk is they will shape what anime get made.
While my own taste doesn't fully align with the crowd in Japan, I prefer it over any foreign influence.

The biggest problem at the moment, though, is that outside of Japan they don't release episodes in a weekly manner, but only as a batch at the end of the series.
Amazon doesn't do that. CR doesn't do that.

After a demonstration of Violet's prowess to combat to several military officials, Gilbert and Violet are placed into a special combat unit which ravage the battlefield for around 8 years before they bring the war to a close. During their entire campaign, Gilbert feels extremely guilty about using a child as a weapon, convincing himself that she's only a tool but as she grows up, he realizes that he's practically been her father, albeit a shitty one. So you have this twisted version of Usagi Drop with a war theme wrapping it all together. It's through this guilt that eventually leads him to commit a suicide mission with Violet where they'll take out critical enemy artillery which would lead to the end of the war itself. Gilbert holds off a choke point by himself while Violet proceeds to destroy the enemy artillery with a bag full of explosives but she ends up blowing her own arms off in the process. By the time Violet gets back to Gilbert, Gilbert is already bleeding out and the LN ends here with Gilbert confessing his feelings to Violet, fatherly ones of course. I don't know if Gilbert died or not but after the war ends Violet becomes an Auto Memory Doll and everything loops back up to the start

The first episode varied from my impression of the first 2 PV. I initially thought she was an all round nice diligent Victorian woman back from war going Marry Poppins like stuff but more extreme. The first episode showed she virtually had no personality and, still diligent, kept a one track mind to perform well like a Forrest Gump autist, being a robot would not be too much to say (yeah I know she is a doll). It does seem she will become a lot more nicer, thoughtful, and earnest but she is a former solider and I think she will be reluctantly be drawn back into events started by people who are still fighting a war that ended.

Despite my acerbic persona, I don't think I normally say stuff that's this outlandish, but with Violet Evergarden, I feel like something crucial needs to be said about why this kind of content is not acceptable.

Violet Evergarden exemplifies everything that is wrong with storytelling in anime, namely that rather than attempting to tell a real story developed with content and meaningful emotion, it takes the most abusive shortcut by designing a cute character, throwing her into a position of bittersweet melancholy, and using that as a means of manipulating our basest emotions into believing there is something meaningful and tragic to be said.

People are praising the emotional resonance in the story and its ability to bring out the loneliness lost in the profundity of memory. Yet, consider a world where the main character is not a beautiful teenage robot girl, lost and confused in a world completely foreign to her. When you remove that physical appearance that makes us so inexplicably attracted to her stake in the story, there is ultimately no reason for us to feel sympathy. It is completely superficial.

While this is true, it is a criticism that can be applied, without exception, to all anime and most popular fiction. How many anime feature terribly unattractive characters in positions of importance? How many of those characters manage to captivate the audience despite looking horrible? Remember that the audience is not going to give a damn about someone who isn't a bishoujo or ikemen, regardless of how interesting or detailed her/his characterization is if the character is unattractive. Your typical anime fan only cares about things to which he/she can get off. It's unfortunate, but it's just how things are.

Also, please don't take what I have said as a defense of this show, Kyoto Animation, or anime production trends. While this might be how things are, I am not pleased with things being this way.
