The thing is usually work character designs and anime is. The more detailed the characters are the harder it is to animate due to each frame in 24fps which can cause it to go down to 14fps due to animators needing to work on the details of the character.

There is always a trade-off with these things. The more detailed something is the less frames and movement it will have, but the less detailed the more unrecognizable it could be but the advantage is it's easier to draw and animate movement and details.

This is also why I think some manga is harder to adapt especially Berserk.
