Shinji is pretty bad in all regards. Tactically unsound moves, non-existent magic circuits and actions which conflict with his servant.

Best Master would technically be Ilya for reserves. Ryuunosuke for actions and Hakuno or Gudao due to having Mystic Codes/Code Casts out the ass.

Ultimately all around wise? Probably Bazett. She's not going to be outstanding but she fits a lot of the criteria.
We never get to see her and Lancer work out to know how it works.

Outside of his personality being so compatable with casters and thus letting him do whatever, he didn't really du much though. Hell they basicly painted a lrge "kill us first" sign on their backs, and survived for that long due to everyone else being stuck in a circle jerk of their own.

Exactly. By being so in-tune with his servant and his servants actions he came out pretty well off during the war.
They enjoyed themselves, they got to commit first degree art and ultimately had a pretty tops time.
