Well here's the thing:

It doesn't matter anymore. He's gonna shine a color for the specific arc but still be on the same level as every other fighter.

you should at least finish the cell and Buu arc, or better yet just finish the manga. After that just assume its over.

Watch/read the Boo saga.
It has a lot of fun stuff.
Personally I found GT pretty enjoyable so watch that if you want more Goku adventure.

As for Super well watch the movie that was made and if you're not throwing up in disgust then maybe it's worth a watch.

I mean, Frieza was a planet buster when Goku was a baby. We're definitely on atleast galaxy level now, given how much Kid Buu destroyed and how Beerus can split a planet in half without even caring.

but it doesn't matter, regardless of how powerful they are they'll always be fighting against people on the same level

actually, power levels have kind of capped
Goku and Frieza can go super crazy god tier high but they're typically fighting at much lower levels to avoid tiring themselves out in this tournament

What's absurd about it?

In Buu saga they're stronger, then in GT stronger than that.
Then Super got them being progresively stronger up till the Black Goku saga where it started being completely arbitrary.
