Did you? First off, subconscious is subconscious because you have no direct control over it, death feedback scares you shitless but as far as subconscious control, it's not any more of a control than self control imposed by your own free will. Secondly, death feedback does not stop cantus leakage from your subconscious at fucking all, Shun had death feedback, yet that didn't stop him at all, and several episodes were dedicated to this. Death feedback just stops you from harming beings similar to you, it doesn't even technically stop you from doing that as you could kill someone indirectly and death feedback would not kick in soon enough to stop you (it only really stops cantus because cantus is basically your thoughts, so you can't "fool" it like they did with Kiroumaru or the Psychobuster, even for a second).

Had someone like Shisei gotten rid of his death feedback, nothing would really have changed for him unless he wanted to. Death feedback doesn't stop karma demons, and having Cantus is just like having a nuke with you: you could trigger it, but you wouldn't turn into a suicidal maniac just because you have it. Of course, if all of society has one, it only takes 1 bad apple to kill a million people. That's where death feedback comes in.

Unfortunately there are not enough nuclear weapons to kill offmankind. Less than 10000 or so nukes left of which large percentage are probably not even armed for immediate use, and are around 100-200kt in yield.
