The series is okay at best. The only real draw was the first couple of chapters and the main character getting a false rape accusation and that initial Edge. Aside from that there's really nothing notable about it. It also hurts me that despite being the shield hero he's more of a mage cast. He does block things don't get me wrong, but maybe tanking means something differently in Japanese MMO's because there's no excuse for him having such a low physical stat given his weapon.

There're too many plot twists, but overall it's a story about getting teleported in a magic book with heroes, princesses and magic and then you start raging out at retarded people and hating retarded people, on the way you meet a cute loyal girl that would never betray or doubt you and then the rest of the story is pretty much trying to get back the life you could have lived in this fantasy world, with a lot of shit happening and emotional triggers, or at least that's what the story tries to convey to the reader. I liked it, no regrets.

She's the only one who has been there for him since the start, and the only one who has been anchoring him to the few nice things in the world and preventing him from succumbing to his overwhelming wrath and hatred.

Another nice thing was the chapter where they meet the queen of the birds and she tells him of the hero that raised her and of the wish that the hero left her. And when the MC starts thinking about what will become of Firo once he dies or disappears from the world, that was really good and emotional.

Even though the manga changes a few things due to it being a manga adaptation, it follows the LN quite faithfully. Though i would encourage reading it if you like hearing about naofumi's thoughts, there's also a few extra chapters in the LN not covered in the manga.

I started reading it some time ago and got bored haflway through. Last I remember is the party getting caught by the other heroes after being accused of some crime or something? Whatever.

I'm not sure if it ever got a better explanation later on, but the reason everyone shat on the mc was dumb as fuck. Basically there's like 4 heroes that keep appearing every few time, different people from Japan each time, and they all get one magic weapon to center their abilities in. Sword, spear, shield and I don't remember what else. Probably bow. And then it turns out everyone hates shield hero because for some damn reason someone had the brilliant idea to make a "church of the three heroes" that says the shield one is fake. Why? Dunno. I guess whoever had the idea had his mom raped by a tank or was full autist about shields not counting as weapons.

Did they ever explain why that church was even a thing?

This is the best short summary I've seen. The first arc was interesting, and powers-that-be treating him badly and other heroes being retarded could be sort of justified. At the end of the first arc it was still possible for everyone to come around and smarten up and break from the typical isekai. But instead it went 100% isekai shit played entirely straight and it's as awful as every other time that's done. Everyone else becomes a prop piece purely to enhance him. All the other heroes don't grow at all, he wipes everyone's butts, gets every power, is revealed to have more secret shit about him, culminating the in the shitfest finale.

In other words it's completely normal isekai, it just STARTS with some promise. But the same can be said of lots of isekai, really that's the worst part. A lot of them have decent premises and you can see how, in the hands of a non-shit author, they could have been great. But they weren't so they weren't.
