One of them is creepy female friend material. The other one is that girl whom everyone is very polite to and pretends to be friends with, but secretly fantasizes about how much of a slut she'd be.

There's an abyss of difference between a few pannels showing a flustered Tomoko with autist thoughts and a minute long animated traversal through her awkwardness.
The manga is relatable, while the anime ends up as some long winded cringe.
