So I'm a little over half way through Doki doki, I enjoyed the first half despite its flaws. And while I knew it was coming, Ace among other things did pretty much ruin the show. Rikka's episode with Ira was cute but I was wondering if there were any other episodes that are worth watching before I just skip to the finale.

Kinda depends on how much plot you want, since Doki's story hinges heavily around the princess' story. 36-40 is a dense package of fun episodes and Regina's return, which is pretty much what the whole show is waiting for, plus her blow-off with MakoPi in 40, which is way, way better than their storyline deserves . After that, you can jump to the finale without too much trouble, you'll figure out the in-between info.

I'm surprised you'd resort to skipping, though. Doki's grating, no doubt, but it's not as boring as, say, the early series' middle sections.

It was pretty painful watching it on weekly basis, especially with all shitposting and /u/posting going on here, but when I re-read synopses for the episodes, there were a lot of them that I at least partially liked.

When I hear Yukari's callout, it makes me think of Mofurun and I half expect that one instead.

I wouldn't say that the HC precures were stellar design-wise, when I first saw it my first thoughts were "wow, they're so simplified and generic compared to the older cures", however HC did had a great presentation/animation, so I ended forgetting that and started to enjoy them more.

They were good because they were simple. Sleek and effective, neat silhouttes, not overdesigned, great color design. I'd say older cures were as genric as it gets, with their ridiculous haricuts, ugly colors, generic animu faces. It looks like our tastes are vastly different so no point in arguing.

If you don't include three angles in your frame in a cartoon, it will look very flat and, well, 2d. Almost like a theatre background.
