Asuka Langley Soryu falls in love with Shinji Ikari.

Unable to confess, she is gifted with by a deus ex machina with Shinji's phone number. Never minding the strange area code, she immediately calls him, and is overjoyed to find out that he has a crush on her as well.

But, the next day, when she recounts the previous day's confessions to Shinji, he only looks at him with a perplexed expression. After some investigation, she finds out that the boy he called is not the same boy he fell in love with. In fact, he doesn't exist in this universe at all. He is Shinji's alternate universe counterpart, who has fallen in love with Asuka's own AU self, Asuka Shikinami Langley, who is perfectly aware of his crush.

Hijinks ensue as the two strike up a deal to give each other their darkest, most private secrets in order to equip the other with the weapons they need to conquer the heart of their other selves. While the two chase their respective loved ones, THIRD IMPACT ensues as they begin to fall in love with each other instead and question the KIMOCHI WARUI.

If I pilot an EVA, wouldn't she know my name since I directly work with her? Like am I just another pilot that shows up, or I take over Shinji's body, or I just take over Shinji's place in the plot?

Does the 3D version retain her memories and experiences? If so, how much does she remember?

I'll just assume that I take over Shinji's position in the plot.

I would chose to fight in the EVA since 2d Asuka deserves to know that someone actually cares about here. In the show she is just an expendable asset and is treated like shit. Misato cries when shinji comes back from being dissolved in the EVA, but after Asuka gets mind raped, Misato just fires her. No one even waits for her in the hospital either.

Choosing the 3d option is the easy way out, I'd rather fight for something.
