Basically the closet thing anime has to a good horror series. The horrific ultraviolence, vile characters and the way it wrings out every drop of dread was really something else. It's too bad it couldn't get to the second half of the manga - things like WoodenSwordGuy litreally chopping people in half and littering the arena with entrails and the giant man-eater ape would have been great to see with the anime's visuals.
