Well i dropped it around tournament arc, but occasionally came back. What I can say, Mishima was actually sometimes able to have a decent buildup and quite nice plot twist, but after that, its like he purposefully made sure nothing good would come out of it. I'm so sad it ended, I realize that i've enjoyed it more than Naruto and Bleach. The plot has been pretty loose but engaging while being quirky and laid back, but the real winning hand here is the main cast.

I can't remember the last time I liked every character in a series, specially in such a large one, I've liked, every. single. one. I'm really going to miss this show, I can only recommend that you give it a try.

I think Mashima made it quite clear that he didn't care for this series anymore. He could've made a better climax easily but simply wanted to end the manga as soon as possible. The whole arc felt half assed and had barely any substance. He probably would've loved to end it shortly after the Tartarus arc but was forced to take a final shit because muh Zeref and Acnologia.

Even in this chapter he trolled all the shipperfags and left most of it hanging in the air for their imagination. He's done with Fairy Tail and if he would've drawn a timeskip with kids then hundreds of fans would've just spammed his twitter with shit like "OMG MAKE FT SEQUEL WITH NALU CHILDREN PLS <33333".

Whatever he does next I hope he puts some more effort into it again because he obviously went out of gas sometime during Tenroujima arc. He was still trying here and there after that but failed miserably and completely stopped giving a shit after Tartarus.

I think he should stay away from Battle Shounen and try out romcom or SoL.

The Aetherion arc was fantastic, especially the end where Natsu went out of his way to rescue Erza and seemed to imply some kind of a beyond friendship development. Then proceeded to completely fuck it up.

After that, it was pretty much downhill. All that said, there ain't no other artist besides Oh Great! who does curvy fit better. So at least, can't complain about that.

I liked pretty much every arc that was pre timeskip except maybe Edo land. The series really took a nosedive after that dumb dragon showed up.

Tower of Heaven is still the best arc and most like Rave Master.

Ha no Bleach was much higher quality than this manga ever achived in the Soul Society arc and dipping in quality by a large portion after that. Bleaches timeskip portion was terrible as well with the final arc being a fucking mess and the manga literally being canceled before the final battle even played out. Bleach has an objectively worse ending no matter how you look at it.

I dropped FT after that time when Simon's imouto went to avenge him but everything was forgiven on a whim. Expected the manga to end for 3 years already. Now that it's over it's even more blatant that this fat lot of nothing was just that. I'll only remember Mashima's pathethic attempts at creating tension only to resolve it with nakama punches and free pardons, magical tits times and shippers acting like 6 years old when their parents take them to McDonald.

Honestly? I've read it in the most open-minded way possible and I can't name a single aspect of it that's better than mediocre. It truly is shonen at its worst. Now that it's finished I see all those people going "It's been an unforgettable ride, I'll miss those characters" and I simply can't wrap my head around how you'd reach that point unless you know nothing about manga except for FT, and even then the characters are so fucking bland I don't see how you could grow attached to them. Fairy Tail was perfectly serviceable until the Grand Magic Games arc which;

-Lost to a hair-user despite having a barber as a combat summon.
-Nearly tortured to death when her disrespectful summon bailed on her, Aquarius also received no punishment for this.
-Ultimately did nothing despite her abilities being key to the plot and all the suffering she had to go through. Spent the climatic fight naked and useless.

>Introduced two antagonistic guilds and promptly discarded them
-Raven Tail had been built up for awhile but ends up being a footnote to Laxus, nice fight scene but what was the point of Ivan in the end?
-Sabertooth could have been a good rival guild for FT going forwards but they ultimately turned into jobbers who drank the friendship koolaid

>Did some good world building by introducing other guilds only for them to be turned into a source of comedic relief and fanservice
-Quatro Cerberus managed to finish the prelims ahead of Fairy Tail but still ended up being a massive fucking joke, the fact they made it into the games to begin with just lowered the impact of what was supposed to be the highest level of mages on the continent.
-Mermaid Heel was a nice idea but Kagura failed to live up to her hype and lost most of her intimidating personality almost immediately.

I feel like Mashima went into that arc with a good plot planned out, got bad feedback and abruptly scrapped it halfway through for some time travel dragons shenanigans.
