>Since I'm a isekai hero, is there a demon lord?
What is it with demon Lord's? Can't you go to an isekai to defeat aliens or dragons or Chaos cults, something other than a Demon Lord for once?
>>
Demon lord is just a japanese version of Sauron and his contemporaries. Its the same in western fiction, if youre the chosen one you would assume that there is a another side that you oppose.

Dragons, Chaos cunts and aliens are the same thing except in different clothes
>>
Isn't it from Dragon Quest like virtually all fantasy tropes in Japan?
>>
>>160088574
They adapted Realist Hero into a manga? holy shit! picked the fuck up!

Blame Dragon Quest. Besides they don't deal with those demons for a long time anyway (and not at all in what's been translated so far).

It's really good, especially the hand drawn backgrounds are an eye candy.
>>160089625
Like your mom. I bet you liked the novel's Fate/SameFace art better.

I'm not inherently against harems or anything but I don't like it how he marries his bodyguard and plans to marry the idol girl. Author should have made his wives the two princesses only.

Also the idolshit is stupid in its entirety.

As many people have said it's Dragon Quest's fault
You can always read Chinese/Korean isekai they don't have the same tropes.

>>
>>160093237
Well, running a kingdom has a lot of different aspects to it. It's more than just bread and circuses.
>>
>>160091709
I do like gookshit better than most nip or chinkshit but they have their own tired tropes they cling to.
>>
>>160088574
does the MC have a painfully generic personality in this one too?
>>
>>160091612
No, they're larping.
>>
>>160092712
>It looks like early Boruto

You better get your eye cancer checked. It's doujin hentai material but it looks nothing like Boruto. Still far better than fake Takeuchi.
>>
>>160093592
It seems like the most common gook tropes are RPG mechanics and being isekai'd into some sort of dungeon/challenge world like SAO SAO isn't an isekai it's just the most relatable setting.
But all of those series I've read so far have been okay to really good.
Even the worst autistic dumpsterfire gook series was at least extremely unique in setting and character. There's just a massive sperg supporting character that won't shut the fuck up.
>>
The king should have offered his sexy queen instead

>>160088839
Looks great
>>
>>160088574
Most isekai stories start off as web novels written by amateurs who lift 90% of their setting and premise from dragon quest (Because it's an extremely iconic and well loved fantasy game thats pretty much the standard for fantasy over there) with cute animal girls, slaves, and some random gimmick thrown in and are essentially all just copying each other at this point.
>>
>>160088574
The witches cult is basically Chaos.
See why Re:Zero is popular now?
>>
>>160094568
While not technically an isekai really, Sao acted as the gateway for it. "Trapped in a game/the game is real" led to just using a game-like world with rpg mechanics.
>>
>>160094783
The popular ones all try to innovate, like Goblin Slayer, Re:Zero etc.
Very few people actually read the generic trash
>>
>>160094904
MMO stories have been a thing for a really long time in gookland (as early as 2000 so pre SAO even) it figures they would put RPG mechanics in their isekai.
I'm actually only seen one gook story without RPG mechanics out of the 16 I've read.
>>
>>160094904
Funny how the king of the genre Mushoku Tensei doesn't have any RPG mechanics or game elements at all.
>>
>>160094933
Goblin Slayer is not isekai. It doesn't even have a Japanese character.

Or at the very least a fantasy isekai where the MC is more into sci-fi than fantasy so he decides to say 'fuck this fairy shit, let's get some steampunk, warforged and Magiscience going. I'll MAKE this shit sci-fi'
Then we'd get knights and wizards vs Aliens and it would dope as fuck and you know it.

>>
>>160104603
Also where the kingdom was in the verge of running into a food crisis for focusing on cashcrops?
>>
>>160104873
Let's be fair, lots of idiots did that in our history too including the first european settlers of the united states of america that thought they'd be able to just use the cash crops to buy their food.

This case was a little different in that they had to use the cash crops to pay an unreasonable tax to their united nations or get bombed with notAmerican Freedom which would have killed off way more people.
I'm a little surprised that didn't spark a refugee crisis which would have been a great revenge and alleviated the food problems a bit. I guess the lack of communication probably stopped that?
>>
>>160105042
How did they solve that anyway?
>>
>>160105561
Eating absolutely everything. The fat guy basically knew of every bullshit meal people knew in the kingdom (which is why he's so fat) then the MC and princess/etc ate the weird meals presented (on live "TV") while talking about how it was totally tasty to prove to the people that it was actually edible.
Of course if the food shortage was as bad as it's supposed to be then people should have discovered that squid are edible before and actually feeding that many people would cause an long term ecological disaster.
>>
>>160091612
Sort of. Imagine a country full of atheists who go to a temple once or twice a year to pray and /or wear amulets for good luck. When there is no religion, people gravitate to mysticism.

>>
>>160088574
/tg/ does it better
https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Stranded_in_fantasy
>>
>>160106118
Not because it's gross. because they didn't realize it was edible (and they thought it was gross so they never thought to eat it except in certain regions)
Eg One area eats lobster but the rest don't because they never thought of eating it before so they demonstrated eating lobster so now places with lobster as well started eating it.
When I say everything i mean pretend they're a plague of locusts.

When i was talking about ecological disaster I wasn't saying anything technically in the book but merely what should have been a consequence of that strategy if they really were starving that much.A massive starving human population devouring everything would make the population levels of whatever they eat go down. This would wreak havok on the food chain for a starter. RL examples of hungry humans eating alot of X meal are part of why several species have become extinct in our world so it would not be surprising if several species went extinct or endangered as a direct result which would make the next link go down and start a cascade effect. This is not limited to animals since they were eating even the grass. We like to think that nature is resilient but it takes time for it to recover from something like that.
>>
>>160106118
Actually, it's not that far-fetched.
In Russia potatoes used to have a really bad rep due to the initial incorrect consumption method: people tried to eat potato fruit initially and it was poisonous.
It took a lot of effort to establish potatoes as something eatable.
>>
>>160106196
Id was around before isekai though.

Id is really about a cute trap.
>>
What about a series where the protagonist is so enthralled by the idea of getting to save the world and fight against a demon king that he assumes must exist because of isekai memes, so he conquers the world in order to prepare for when the demon king finally shows himself only to wind up becoming the demon king along the way in his quest to gain more power

Earn your freedom by winning the affection of your master through simple engineering inventions like a pulley system, better saddle, a halberd, longbows, gunpowder, herbal medicine, and so on.

Rome is not like Africa today.

There are many slaves on Rome who managed to win their freedom. Some colleseum gladiators even became renowned athletes. They do fear women rising into power though. Such is why they hated Cleopatra

Once you became a free man, earn the respect of your people by becoming a merchant who specializes on the harvest of expensive spices which you cultivated through advanced agricultural knowledge. Romans never knew that dumping feces on the soil would increase the production of crops yo

You can't just a kill a slave in Rome. You can harm him all you want but killing him is not legal
(dominica potestas is not the same as dominium)

Also, Rome have poor saddles that is why they still use chariots and halberds specializes on hooking on shields and taking it away.

Be sure on what trade your master have. If he is a politician, you can win his appeasement by being knowledgable about history and predicting all the upcoming invasions.

if he is a man of trade, great job. You can protect him from mechant swindlers and improve his trade through marketting strategy

If he is a man of war, and you are a foot soldier, ALWAYS volunteer for scout missions. Romans look down upon scouts because they think it's very humiliating mission. But this is just so crucial that Hannibal took advantage of this and slaughtered about 30,000 Romans who travelled through a foggy forest without sending scouts first

The average person doesn't realize that the Prince has a 99.99999% chance of being satire/mockery and the isekai inhabitants are usually treated as being stupid in the genre.
I mean, the book taken straight single handedly led to the bad reputation of Italians as honourless goombas that they have centuries later to this day. Literally every bad stereotype about italians known around the world (other than the gestapo and Mussolini) stems from that one book and I have no idea on if the guy read the book.

The arcuballista found in xanten is a torsion handheld weapon, it was much more complicated than contenporary or medieval crossbows

Earlier roman crossbows appear as early as the roman conquest of gaul with reliefs depicting soldiers mounted hunting with crossbows similar to medieval ones
>>
>>160117310
It's still a good book. It was also just a massive amount of mockery while it gave you insight into how corrupt politics worked back then. Do you not realize at all how absolutely negative the attention that it gave to italy the instant it was translated was? It would be like a place with a functioning democracy receiving a manifesto on the Trump Regime out of nowhere and making it sound like that's business as usual in america.
>>
>>160117475
Of course they did. Rome knows about China and it's only natural that they would learn about the crossbow.
The point is that Rome's most powerful crossbow designs are meant to be used for sieges or mounted on defenses. A knowledge about medieval conventional crossbows would change everything

Lots of stuff happens in OSO. It's just not the usual "maxing my numbers so I'm uber-leet and pwn the bad guys and get all the hot bitches" isekai stuff. Instead it's "exploring the crafting sub-systems and building player housing and occasionally pugging a dungeon with your friends" stuff.

Much lower stakes, much more casual attitude, much less wish fulfillment. Some people like that, other people are the target audience for your bog standard isekai and can't stand it.
>>
>>160119246
I thought it was every reset/chapter even if it's offscreen. I'm probably wrong since I'm just remembering what i was told. What you said drastically lowers the amount of deaths and is not as fun.
>>
>>160119101
It's an episodic series about playing a guy who plays as a crafter in an MMO. There isn't really a huge overarching plot so much as small adventures each volume.
>>
>>160119346
Should install a death counter nonetheless
>>
I don't have any particular opposition to the whole 'transported to another world' device to set up a story's plot but I think it's a real shame that /a/ basically has a general dedicated to it while anything more imaginative gets completely ignored.

I wonder how much fucking XP he must have been getting from constantly killing a god?
>>
>>160119480
I wonder if that's how he rises up to the high hundreds? Raphtalia is outside and beyond the world's system but she has to play by the rules if she wants to do anything or borrow power. so she might be high-leveled but not enough to avoid getting crushed by a meteor.

Nah. She dies because she min/maxed herself to have 0 defense since Naofumi is taking all of the damage. Hence when she goes to where Motoyatsu is she could trip over a banana peel he tosses and die. That's part of how he racks up so many kills.

To the people arguing about crossbows: They require state manufactures to produce for the army which only existed barely in the late Roman period as well as the Han Chinese in sufficient numbers. They are pretty complicated pieces of equipment and prone to break if not well taken care of and brutally effective. They saw infrequent use by mercenary companies, especially in Italy but they were pretty expensive compared to a bow. They could have functioned as a rudimentary shot and pike combo if they existed as a mainstay in the army long enough to get unit tactics built around it.
>Have front line infantry move forward
>Hunker down with their shield
>Fire by rank crossbows behind them
Horsefuckers would have gotten destroyed.

>Padway initially wonders if he is dreaming or delusional, but he quickly accepts his fate and sets out to survive. His first idea is to make a copper still and sell brandy for a living. He convinces a banker, Thomasus the Syrian, to lend him seed money to start his endeavor. He teaches his clerks Arabic numerals and double entry bookkeeping. Padway eventually develops a printing press, issues newspapers, and builds a crude semaphore telegraph system utilizing small telescopes. However, his attempts to reproduce mechanical clocks, gunpowder, and cannons are failures. He becomes increasingly involved in the politics of the state as Italy is invaded by the Imperials and also threatened from the south and east.
>Padway rescues the recently deposed Thiudahad and becomes his quaestor. He uses the king's support to gather forces to defeat the formidable Imperial general Belisarius. Padway manages to surprise Belisarius with tactics never used in the ancient world. Then, deceiving the Dalmatian army, Padway reinstates the senile Thiudahad and imprisons King Wittigis as a hostage. In 537, when Wittigis is killed and Thiudahad descends into madness, Padway has a protégé of his (Urias) married off to Mathaswentha, then crowned king of the Ostrogoths. He also tricks Justinian I into releasing Belisarius from his oath of allegiance, and quickly enlists the military genius to command an army against the Franks.
Just like my chinese children literature! Or is it the other way around?
>>
>>160123220
>Or is it the other way around?

Pretty much. Japan loves its classic science fiction. That's why you get random things like the villain in Psycho Pass going on a digression about his favorite author, or General Boskone in Berserk who's named after the space pirates from Lensman.

Heck, go look up The Incomplete Enchanter (also by L. Sprague de Camp) for the first example of "MC travels to realities that exist as stories in his own world and abuses his meta-knowledge for his own benefit" in action. It's a clear grandparent to all the "I reincarnated as an otome game villainess" stories.

Actually, it's more like
>They require state manufactures to MASS produce
Yes they are expensive but since slaves are allowed to have properties, I see no problem as to why one cannot craft one using his own wood and steel

You only need to produce a prototype and prove its effectiveness.

It does even have to be a crossbow. There are lots of more powerful arsenal one can construct like the flail, braced spears, caltrops, and of course the chain mail. Even a knowkedge about barb wires and punji traps would bring wonders to acient Rome

To be fair lobsters basically went through the same thing here. I'm forgetting the specifics but aren't lobsters essentially sea-roaches. That's why no one ate them and they were used to feed poor people and prisoners, at least in burgerland. Then people figured out it was good, it gained popularity, which grew demand for it and scarcity, causing it to become a delicacy, and people forgot the whole sea-roach connection which is why people are surprised to learn about it nowadays.

Some parts right and some parts wrong. It was sold to landlubbers that didn't know they were sea roaches and got considered fancy.

The thing here is that none of those populations were literally starving to death because the only crops were inedible. If the alternative was starting to death you can be damn sure everyone would have eaten some fucking lobster earlier.
This wasn't an "Oh we're on some rations and live on what we have stored" situation. This was the entire country is out of food, we've eaten everything we know is edible, and we're one step from cannibalism due to famine situation.

You realize a light novel artist has months to draw like 9 monochrome images and 5 color ones, right?
Compared to manga artist needing 30+ for monochrome and several color a month.
Or do you seriously expect every manga to have better art than its light novel counterpart?

I don't think the manga art is bad, even.
Artist looks like he has some experience drawing porn without even looking up the name, but aside from 'it looks different than the light novel art,' I don't really see any major issues with it.

It's more of a despondent feeling.
Like the other anon said, there are a few things where'll I'll just outright drop it unless it comes off as being done really well.
Like the protagonist suddenly waking up to being 'held by giants' and not understand he's a baby for like 20 minutes. That'll make me drop something real fast.

A lot of Isekai like doing "slow life" shit AKA the author has nothing to write about so they hope the story develops itself as they go.
Otherwise in reincarnation stories it'd just skip the pointless childhood (rarely is there meaning in them), and in teleported stories there'd be actual fucking story within the first 5 chapters that isn't the protagonist somehow ending up at the bottom of a super hard dungeon.

You know, I was in the /m/ thread for the Knights and Magic anime the other day, and I was surprised to see that people were complaining that the arc covering the protag's early childhood had been rushed. Apparently the original story devoted a full volume to it?

Paladin is a work that demonstrates how it really helps with constructing a fleshed out world when an author is actually well-read and puts effort into research. As much as people complain about Kamachi Kazuma's writing, randomly packing everything with myths and legends and SCIENCE that he researched definitely adds more depth to the writing. Compare that to the average amateur narou writer who can't write anything beyond teenagers fighting slimes in a DQ medieval fantasy because they have no other frames of reference for what an action adventure should be like.
