Interestingly Baki Dou is addressing this - the cast has too much pride in traditional fighting and too much mutual respect/friendship with their opponents, which is why Musashi is able to prey on them so easily - he's from an age where when you got into a fight, only one man leaves with his life and there's no rules or code of conduct. All the fighters we know are bros, and you don't rip off your bro's nutsack or crush his throat or stab him with a hidden knife. Musashi doesn't give a shit about any of that, which is what makes him so dangerous.

Well, a couple of them are pretty damn close. old man Gensai who can stab through a fucking metal wall, Saw paing with his wolwerine skeleton, wakatsuki/Julius who make craters on the ground just by walking, not to mention Sen who has yet to go all out, and of course Fang himself. Haruo would be a good example to compare to Pickle but again Pickle stands taller that 8 feet I beleive, has very dense skin and built neck bones and fights and eats dinosaurs for a living. I'd love to see more of Haruo in his prime though.

Gensai, Gaolong and Hatsumi are pretty great and I'd put them on the same level as Doppo, Katsumi and Goki. Some characters like Kaku and Yujiro know some esoteric techniques which put them a few leagues above like the damage nullification one.

I wouldn't say that Fang uses 'skill'. He's kind of an idiot who relies on his strength and instinct only, and can end fight very quickly when he gets serious. He also 'learns' from every challenging fight, such as the one with Gaolan.
Speaking of Gaolan, he might not have a crazy genetic advantage like the rest, but his pure skill easily puts him as one of the most powerful fighters in the tournament. Not to mention he actually does have superhuman strength. He was able make a pretty big crater in the ground in his first fight. Sure, it's not on the same level as wakatsuki, but he's pretty fucking strong.

Fang actually relies mostly on his skills and his abilities to make a new martial arts from the skill pools he has to counter his opponent. His strength alone is subpar compare to the top tier like Julius or Wakatsuki. The only thing he lack is tatic. It said clearly during his fight with Gaolan that Fang never have to bait or trick enemy before, just overwhelm them with superior technique that he learn from them. Only with Gaolan that Fang actually has to bait Gao because he can't fight Gao with Systemma alone

His durability is bullshit-level as well. Gaolang landed so many blows against him, and all Agito needed were a few good hits.
If he went all out from the beginning, Okubo would job hard. Gao would still hold out pretty well, but would get defeated much quicker.

Only Okubo would job; Gao is actually very hard for Fang, especially since all of his technique doesn't work against Gao. Fang tried both boxing and Systemma but still got BTFO hard by Gao. His endurance is just ridiculous, 20+ punches from the current boxing champion and he is still ok.

Would you say that the Aiki-S scanlations are easy to read, would you say that Aiki-S needs a proofreader/editor; what are your thoughts on it in general? I'm on the team, but I don't read or work on that series; one of the translators does it as almost a solo venture. It is always worth getting constructive feedback whenever possible from whoever possible.

That's not the real difference. The real difference between Musashi and the Convicts is that the former has the strength of the main cast and also uses 'dirty tricks'.

The Convicts needed to cheat in order to reach the levels of the main cast - Speck was completely beaten down by Hanayama before he began to use technology, Doyle had no physical strength to speak of outside of cheats and was repeatedly beaten by multiple members of the cast, Sikorsky relied almost entirely on his ability to cut people with his fingers and could not hold a candle to Jack in their fight, Yanagi was entirely reliant on weapons and had no lasting strength, and Dorian was stopped by Doppo even with his cheats.

Musashi has the strength/endurance of one of the main cast, and also uses weapons. That is what makes him unfair.

Is Yamashita the strongest character in the series?

As far as I remember he was a former teacher of some tanned uggo (pretty much everyone can be uggo with that artstyle though). That tanned uggo first learned everything he possibly could (Memetobe's words, he basically admitted that he surpassed him) and was hyped as Baki's opponent for a bit. Then the tanned faggot got demolished by some elderly pro-wrestler for being a rude piece of shit and the pro-wrestler became Baki's real opponent.

I downloaded the first couple volumes of this before it was being translated.

Going through these topics now... this series took a turn.

Since Dou. Apparently he was weak because he wasn't using weapons and technology and shit, which is his real specialty. It's pretty silly, and I hated most of the build-up for him, but then his fight against Musashi actually happened and was like the only good part of Dou, so at least there's that.
