Why does everyone praise this show? What is so good about it? What is the deeper meaning behind this show? Is there any?

Creative use of the medium and beautiful art/animation. The message is rather simple but it's well executed.
IT'S A SMART SHOW FOR SMART PEOPLE LIKE ME
>>160001681
The dialogue is pure Japanese humor folded a thousand times.

This. I don't understand how people can think this show is pretenious. It's a very simple and sincere message.
release when

Every single thing Yuasa has directed has simple and clear messages. Shitposters just like to call him pretentious because it's their favorite buzzword for unconventional directors.
>>160002367
>>160001728
Can someone jog my memory? What was the message? It's been like 7 years since I've seen it.
>>160002572
Don't get dragged down by your regrets. Live for tomorrow. Something like that.
How was it pretentious? if anything, shit just hard to follow due to the long fucking dialogue.

I don't know about Japanese humour, but it was definitely smarter and more funny than the majority of Japanese "comedy" anime.
I honestly was really surprised when I saw so many people naming it as a pretentious anime or one for "anime elitist."
Besides a unique art form and storytelling technique, it wasn't that special? The overall message was simple and even if the last couple episodes were strong, you can't just disregard the former mediocre different club episodes. Maybe if the supporting cast was a little more developed I would of enjoyed the character intentions better, and I never really got Akashi's character.
Maybe I'm just too stupid to see its greatness. Do I have shit taste?
>>160002769
maybe you just don't fully understand the mindset of a uni student
It's pretentious, lacks any real character or depth outside a very simple message. Most of all Yuasa-fags like to circlejerk over anything he directs and are stupid as fuck. See Ping Pong retards who praise Yuasa for things they should be praising Matsumoto for.
Kaiba was better and Kemonozume was best.
But it let Ping Pong fags act like they had superior tastes and weren't just jumping on the bandwagon.
Also better than Endless Eight.

Just watch these cartoons with like/don't like mindset and don't be pretentous fag.
>>160001728
this
It's not good because of some "deeper meaning" and no, there isn't one.
>>160001681
You want to have stories with a deeper meaning?
Go read a book,nigger!

The character had an expectation, and it was broken.
Constantly blaming Ozu for the mishaps. and never blaming himself for the mistakes he made.
Time repeated over and over again, yet at the end of every episode, the unnamed protagonist remained unsatisfied. Nothing changed.
The overall moral was that, regret will repeat itself without self betterment.
So yeah "There is no such thing as a rose colored campus".
the art style threw me off so bad I couldnt finish the first episode
>>160002769
The point of Akashi character was that "the raven-haired girl of his dream" was in front of him the entire time.
Yet he was delusional of his expectation.

Looks like you don't read.
>>160006099
Looks like you read the wrong books.
I think the girls are pretty and I like the art.
Also the main girl has a very alluring personality for a virgin.
>>160001681
Nice writing
>>160001681
It's a compact story that gets it's point across without many distractions. The animation is a bit different but the style grows on you. The characters drive the story well and the show is just enjoyable to watch. Also the mc is relatable (atleast for me) which makes me like the show even more.

Not everything is 2d4u shit, OP. Some things are just beautiful for their simplicity.

in cinemas but not on my dirty private screen.

No Yuasa said that the symbolism doesn't mean anything the fanboys are deluding themselves lmfao
