I recently finished this and I'm confused and sad
What the fuck was wrong with Punpun when he travelled with Aiko?
I feel like I have to digest this thing for a while before getting a grasp of all the wild ride.

Both of them were going crazy from stress.
Also Aiko had an actively-infected wound at her abdomen. I think around the time before her suicide she was having sepsis.

Was the whole suicide thing even real?
I got that the evens right after Punpun wakes up and finds her hanged were allegories of him coming to terms with her death (the two kids would be a projection of him and Aiko if they had left for Kagoshima when they were kids, Aiko disappearing = Punpun realizing she's gone, etc.)

Aiko's story got me depressed for a whole month

Give it up anon, she's dead.
He realized that being with the person he loved and obsessed about most didn't solve any of his problems, and actively made his life even worse than it already was. He ignored the things that could have made him happy to pursue an ideal that was never real in the first place. The end of the manga is Punpun coming to terms with the life that he has led and trying to make the best out of a bad upbringing, rather than lashing out at an unjust and uncaring world.
