Its explained in Extella, but every TM game since Tsukihime has harped on this point. Without strife the world will stagnate, people will stop growing, stop creating, they'll just be lazy. Immortality always leads to stagnation. If an Earth stagnates entirely then that world-line is deleted. All the universes basically got together and created a system called time-locks using the human order as a basis. Certain events have to unfold in each time-line, those events are judged as the proper path for humanity to continue forward. Universes that don't hit those marks are deleted. It happens every years or so. A universe of stagnation will stop hitting the marks, and will fall out of the system.

Extra world-line was constantly about trying to fight against stagnation, Twice H Pierceman tried to come up with a foolishly deadly system to not stagnate. By using the grail to wish for endless war, because war can never lead to stagnation. But its also a dumb method.

Most of the "poetry" moments are from episode 20 which is agreed to be the only decent one as it wasn't storyboarded by Miura but Takashi Suhara instead. In the context of the anime as a standalone though, it falls flat, because we have no reason to care about Shirou or his ideal that hasn't been established properly.
