This is also pretty true. The only exception being One Piece. Other than that though, this is the 2nd to last manga I picked up under 18 that's finally coming to a close.

I guess that's partially why I'm sad to see it go, but also, it's by far the worst of the mangas I read under 18. I would much rather take the Naruto ending experience over FT. Really it's a shame, I really loved how FT started and thought it had huge potential. It just completely fell apart though.

There was a point in time that I really liked Fairy Tail, and I'm not exactly sure where it lost me. All I know is that I hate what it's become, and I'm relieved it's nearly done.

Parts of the tournament were good, and a handful of other recent moments stand out.
But painting with broad strokes, most of the post-timeskip chapters were shit, regardless of what you were looking for.
Even the characters, the one thing that could salvage it, have devolved and been either uninteresting or irrelevant.

I will enjoy the final week of shitposting though, /a/ will not let FT go quietly into the night.

Man I remember when the manga first started running. Those first chapters where I was like "shit is it going to be like this for every arc?"

I tried out the first five volumes from that recent Humble Bundle.

It was really trying to ape on One Piece, wasn't it? Like, same style, down to the chapter title pages being some snippet of the guild's daily life.

It felt forgettable, seeing as there was no real goal at the start of the series aside from taking on quests. I liked Erza when she first appeared, seeing as how she seemed to be a competent fighter who always wore a suit of armor (so she wasn't going to be relegated to fanservice), but then she just became another fanservice girl.

I'm glad I didn't get addicted to that.

In the early days of Fairy Tail, the author and copyright IP management firms went after doujin makers. The major doujin resellers were contacted and therefore didn't carry FT doujins. As a result, the artists didn't make FT doujins because it would be difficult to sell. A few artists still did make some, and sold them at the small doujin conventions that small malls have from time to time. So that's where you get some of the FT doujins.

In latter days, the IP management firm relaxed its heavy handed tactics but it was a bit late as FT was no longer a new hot thing but old and worn out with a failing plot and characters that got more and more slutty clothing to boost sales to the demographic that would still keep buying merchandise.

I suspect the author wants to make a new work so that it can get an anime to promote a whole new line of merchandise sales for big IP and royalty profits. He's already said he has a new work planned.

Fairy Tail had some much world building in the beginning. Some characters were mysterious, but ever present throughout (like Mistogan up until his arc) and the battles required actual effort on the characters.

Pretty much the only reason I kept reading this manga was to see Lucy and Natsu's relationship develop.

Ass pulling at an all time high, once again. This manga consistently managed to level up it's asspulls with each arc. And Mashima certainly didn't let the magic end even at the end of the manga. He managed to make the greatest asspull of this whole entire manga right before the final chapter. Someone with this much skill in asspulling in truly remarkable.
