I wouldn't go that far. The Germans nearly made it all the way to Paris, again, before French political will collapsed. It was a lot like WWI. Germans won early on, but the French could have pushed them back before reaching Paris if they were willing to suffer horrific casualties, as they did in WWI. They weren't.

People seem to forget that tanks fight more than other tanks. With regards to France, though the tanks were of better quality the French severely lacked anti-air defence so the armor divisions were getting butchered by the Luftwaffe
Maybe in 1939 France could win one on one but by 1940 they were outmatched, even if only a bit

French volunteers in the German forces afterwards in Russia and East Germany alone prove that the French were great fighters.

Eh, De Gaulle was also kind of a basket case. He always wanted power and glory and was quite nationalistic and didn't cooperate that well with the powers that be, which would be very bad for the increasing globalization of powers that was happening. I feel like the French definitely could've played a defining role in the war, had they stayed in, but they would have suffered a huge number of casualities, much like the USSR, and the French are not soulless robots like the Soviets, so they were not as willing to sacrifice their men.

If their geographic location were better, such as in Britain, then yes they definitely could've kept fighting but they simply did not want to go through that bloodshed again.

Nah, the problem is that English historians just used exclusively German and British sources for decades. No one bothered to consider translating Italian ones. The Germans would blame their own misakes on the Italians or just ignore Italian intelligence or pull their forces back to rest without actually letting the Italians do the same, and repeatedly just made Italian forces do things that were never actually going to work, or worse yet, things that would work if the Germans actually did their part of the plan.

The book Soldiers has plenty of worse quotes. Like one officer telling a story about how his regiment had killed lots of (I think it was Jews). The corpses piked up over the days. One of his horrified listeners asks him if they really just left the bodies lying there. The actual generals were very conservative. Even Guderian basically got lucky and declared himself the panzer leader and claimed it was his plan all along. He made most of the right calls but ideologically he was in an impossible position. He couldn't let the soviets be. and he had to attack while they were weak and he needed to attack at a time before melting ice turned half of western russia into a quagmire which would have been even worse than the winter. And he couldn't just let the red army re-organise and recoup and build up it's industry even more.
