Meruems durability puts him beyond the reach of pretty much any human hunter we've seen. If you think about the most powerful hatsus we've seen, none could really put a dent in his exoskeleton. Netero was at it for hours with something that probably packs as much punch in each hit as gons (shota) Janken, and furthermore given Gings personality, it's highly doubtful he has nuke fists.

I understand how you feel. Personally, I feel it's been a long time coming, and to my eye Kurapika's case is very similar to Gon.

Like Izunavi said, using powers beyond what you are currently capable of will cause massive strain. Kurapika took a shortcut to what would take years of training to accomplish. Emperor Time allows him to fight at his max potential but at a reasonable cost. Similar to Gon-san, whose body was the end result of decades of non stop training. Though in Kurapika's case, his is more of a slow burn while Gon was immediate.
