It's not that bad
Its more that it could have been so much better. Focuses on mai waifu, and kirito is too edgy and suffers from muh depression. The premise is fantastic, group of people now in a fantasy world fighting a battle of attrition. All while dealing being cut off from irl, dealing with the dilemma to risk it for escape, or to sink in to escapism and stay. .hack does this much better, and with far better characters.
The act of PK is at least brought up, but only to make it dark and edgy. SAO should have been .hack with a little more action, better animation, and expanding the "stuck in game" to a community, rather than one person.
It really is. It's just that faggots like this guy >>159816820 default to the "it's just hype backlash" defense instead of shooting down any common criticisms or trying to defend what it does right.
Of course it's not bad. It has Suguha.
No, I actually do think it's awful. With that having been said, it's no worse than a million and one other light novels, some of which have perennial fanbases right here on this board.
>spawning all this
It is. The production value is good but the story and characters (the lack of characters really) make it absolute trash. The characters are one of the worst I have seen in any form of media, though I know I am not the target audience for this. But I don't think I would have liked this as a 13 year old either.
i like it
Here's a triggered one
>the writing, wasted potential, bland characters etc are no more offensive than the average seasonal isekai or battle magic academy harem
>kirito isn't "edgy" no matter how much faggots force the kikebook cosplay pics and memes
>character designs are in fact quite nifty, disregarding ALO
>LN writing broadens in scope and becomes even endearing in the literal deification of the OTP
But as >>159817527 said it's a losing battle to defend it because fags will inevitably loop back to TWO YEARS
Movie bds when?
lolisugu is very cute, but thicc sugu is also great
I like the idea, but the main problem with the series is that there's no tension whatsoever.
There's no romantic tension, because Kirito is already in a stable relationship. There's certainly no physical tension, because he's not really at risk at any point of the story. I don't think he ever has to fight anyone who is basically as good as him.
Just like in Ordinal Scale, where Eiji is wearing fucking POWER ARMOR that lets him do SUPERJUMPS. Kirito beats him simply by outfighting him.
Eh I admit that I liked the first half of season one. Even looked to me like A-1 thought that episode 14 (iirc) would have been a fitting ending considering the way they ended that hospital scene
>pillow in the middle of the legs
Best way to sleep, and best girl. Damn.
I would pay A-1 to pull a Brotherhood with SAO. Improved story, development, and characters. In the meantime I hope season 3 does well, cause Ordinal Scale was the best thing SAO has done so far.
