Japan has a tendency to stay in old technology and practices. They still use cash for buying anything, flip phones were a thing until a few years ago. People don't own a PC, most people use phones. If it wasn't for they high polluted sky, they could stay using car engines from the 60s.

Only some. Some on the other hand are complete opposite and go with the bleeding edge. There a few stores there that accept bitcoin and other crypto currencies to buy groceries already for example. A lot of public transport is integrated in their special ID cards and used for many things at once by swiping it everywhere. Not to mention tech in general like high speed bullet trains (still being expanded) as well as a fetish for electronics, japan definitely has a side for futuristic tech adaptation.

I work in a law firm, and if you told anyone that you still used fax, they'd laugh you out of the building. Fax lacks security compared to email, and it just wastes paper.
