Well the big ass reversed tree's roots reach the sea so the force field has a really big diameter.
To get away from the force field you'd have to be somewhat far from the island and drill into the bottom of the sea.
They seem to be a bit behind in tech (Though some very advanced things can be done with relics as we've seen with Bondrewd) and even we can't drill a vertical hole under the sea when it's this deep. Even if it was possible, whole countries would have to dedicate many many ressources to that project, and since they would share the relics found, the cost combined with the risk of the project not working/not finding that much relics would far outweigh the benefit.

Although everything I said was impossible wouldn't be if we took Bondrewd's tech and mass produced Cartridges and Blessed people. But the outside world doesn't even know that is possible.
So, in a way, if every Human's single goal was breaching the secrets of the Abyss, then it would be possible to do it, but that's not really the case. If nations are interested in relics it's only to shift the balance in power, so making a risky move like building a giant elevator shaft underwater and doing human experiments would make it vulnerable economically and would probably get freedom'd by other countries horrified by what it's doing.

I was reading whatever is on kissmanga, since the current version of the reader I use wouldn't connect to batoto for some reason. Checking the actual website it seems that batoto uses /a/nonymous, so I'll try to get that working.
The first couple of chapters of what I read were very disjointed and then the credits page said `I'm not at all fluent in Japanese'.

Honestly, I doubt the author has an idea of what is at the bottom.

But personally, I think Made In Abyss resembles Roadside Picnic quite a bit. The Aybss and the zone are pretty similar, so they could have similar origins: Aliens visit earth and it fucks things up in ways no one ever could have imagined.

Maybe a UFO crashed into earth and formed the abyss. The artifacts could just be alien tools from the wreckage. The dangerous monsters and even the curse could just be wacky alien radiation side-effects. Reg could be one of those aliens, or a servant-like machine that has outlived his masters.

While I'm shitting up the thread with theories, what if the "curse" extends past level 1? What if there is a level 0 that effects Orth and our narrator?

MiA has been nothing but consistent in its worldbuilding so far. It is clearly a story and a world that have been thought-through since the very start. It has a defined beginning and ending, and the Abyss itself seems like something with a very definite, albeit yet unknown, reason to exist.

Why are this type of character always soo good. If they appear with a mask, helmet or whatever, and arent a cold stoic mysterious man, they always became so likeable and nice too see on the spotligh because on how expresive they are, and even if they become sad or cry, they delive more impact than seeing the MC or someone more relevant with a face full of tears.
