I really like chibi, he breaks down the symbolism so we dont need to (which we can't in the first place) and he really helps you understand the themes of the story. Not to mention his theories are always right, but even though he analyses tokyo ghoul so much and puts so much work in and is so intelligent it doesnt make him too serious. And before ishida fucked up, the washuus and v seemed like they would be good villains. And even kanou was interesting. He decided to give his all and do everything in his power to protect Touka and the child after finding out she was pregnant. Her pregnancy obviously had an impact on him.

When Kaneki got his memories back he remembered how she used to berate him and thought there was no way she actually liked him based on how she acted. Hence why he was embarrassed when she brought up how Haise acted and shell shocked when she admitted she liked it.

Afterwards, that was confirmation he shouldn't be embarrassed about pursuing her. So he immediately asks her to go with him. And that's your proof. Kaneki, after being informed of her feelings, had no hesitation in keeping her near him, an indication he's down to see where this is going/continue the conversation.

As a side note, how is this progression too forced and unnatural for you when Kaneki's first infatuation for someone (Rize) started with him thinking they were beautiful (i.e. as he thought of Touka in ~chapter 30)? That was the most blatant shipflag of the century, especially considering this is Ishida and muh parallels.

That is not what happened. At all. When Kaneki got his memories back, he gave zero fucks about romancing Touka in anyway. The very fact Touka reminded him of his feelings as Haise was tantamount to that, as Touka was barely a blip on his radar. He was even uncomfortable with the entire virgin/sex talk with her and at first wanted Banjou or Ayato to bail him out. Never once did we see Kaneki musing over his hypothetical would be feelings for Touka. Sorry man, but this is headcanon of the highest order.
