I would replace Zaregoto and Fate/Extra with two other shows Ef and maybe Nisekoi. As much as I love Zaregoto, that shit's taking way too long to complete. The opening Cobalt World is great, but everything else just feels so lazy. And Fate/Extra's not even out yet.

OP used bad reference picture for bottom left. It's Zaregoto - "nonsense". It's Nisio Isin's first work as far as I know published in the Faust magazine. IMO the Zaregoto series is better than Monogatari, but shame Shaft is working at a snail's pace with completing the anime series. I think it's up to episode 6 at the moment.

Well the anime's transition screens literally say the chapter number and chapter name, so you can tell they follow the manga quite closely.

Also the original art style takes well the shaftification.

I love Monogtarai too but I don't feel like Shaft adds that much to it in adaptation. A lot of the subtext from the character's internal monologues is lost, a lot of the most insightful and funny conversations between characters don't make it in, and the visuals, while pretty, are often meaningless and can end up hurting the overall tone of the scene. A big example of this being when Araragi has his panic attack after realising just how much Hanekawa is being abused by her parents, which in the novel is a hard hitting gut punch, but in the anime is a goofy Looney Toons-esque sequence where he runs about the streets wth taers streaming from his eyes, which I always remember because it's just so fucking jarring and reductive.

Meanwhile, reagrdless of what I think of 3-gatsu overall as a story, their adaptation of it is perfect. They retain everything from the manga, but also use extra visuals and sound design to ehance the emotions of each scene. Like how in the manga there'll be a few barebones panels of Rei against a blank background with his narration hanging above him saying how loney he is, but in the anime they'll change that into him walking alone at night, slowly getting further away from the streetlamps and swallowed by the darkness, visually showing his loneliness. The visuals only add to the tone in 3-gatsu.

I think Madoka had the perfect amount of Shaft-ism. Almost every one of their works since then has taken it much too far. Mekkaku City Actors is by far the strongest example. A trashy source material that was somehow made even worse by their "artsy" bullshit.
