wow. no.

the dialogue is shitty, you can hear the va's struggling to make it less stilted and childish. it's like an autistic 8th grader wrote the dialogue in this one. furthermore its direction and shot composition is nonsensical. watch ernie take down the behemoth. if that wasn't the stupidest portrayed mech battle "win" you've ever seen you haven't seen enough mech battle anime. The fact the audience can't even tell how he won without the narration at the end just underlines it.

In fact the narration is the worst part of this show, it is an easy way to skip out on actually "showing" shit happening. How did ernie know how to hijack the mech? In the LN it's clear and the scene doesn't seem particularly bad. in the anime it looks like deus ex machina or gary stu syndrome at its worse. (he's still a gary stu wish fulfillment character in the LN but the LN actually tries to justify it, where as the anime doesn't bother)

Listen, the problem isn't that its a wish fulfillment fantasy for virginal neckbeards. The problem isn't that it's light novel is a horribly written waste that's written by an autistic 8th grader. Youjo Senki had those same problems. In fact Youjo Senki's light novel was even dumber and more childish then knights and magic to read.

The problem is the adaption. Studio NUT took a dull, horrible light novel and turned it into something special (yes special, the anime was brilliant, far better than the source material), where as studio silverlink took it's trash bin filth light novel and made it even trashier by basically directly adapting it page for page, word for word, and then cutting out huge swaths of it so as to cram in more action.

this is a trash adaptation, of a trash light novel.

Too early to tell. But a better season than last one for sure. So far only (expected) disappointment is that Fate consistently fails to deliver.
