Cyberpunk outside books can look cool, but is totally shit plot wise. Too much jargon and technobabble to represent in an anime, movie, tv series etc.

Ghost in the Shell, because there really isn't any other cyberpunk anime out there. The others you list are sci-fi, but cyberpunk needs to have that grimy look of salvaged technology cobbled together with concrete ghettos.

It's gotta have cyborgs, graffiti and trash covered streets, ramen stands run by robots, and hard boiled detectives solving mysteries and shit.

Given that "cyberpunk" by the original definition is someone using computer technology to empower themselves - as opposed to companies or the state - Psycho Pass and Texhnolyze aren't cyberpunk. It's science fiction per classic Asimov or Bradbury, re-framing of social realities or possibilities using technology to highlight elements; social conformance for Psycho Pass, existential purpose for Texhnolyze. But institutions rather than punk

Lain's a better case for cyberpunk, since Lain's driving herself to knowledge and a new gnostic paradigm with technology.

GitS (and Appleseed) are muddy, since individuals do empower themselves with technology, but those themes are less important than tech-enhanced politics and social issues. Classic scifi meets Tom Clancy.

Yeah you should watch it. There is some boring eps but just skip through then to at least understand the story. It also has one of my favorite OPs of all time.

Several years ago I went on a binge of Mars related ovas and shows. And some of them were really good, but I can't remember any titles and can never find them when i search. but hey there's something to watch out for.

Mars as in the planet, my favorite was one where some guy finds a girl who turns out to be a cyborg I think and the planet is covered in robots and sentries that kill humans on sight.
