It's not so much the characters themselves, but how they interact with each other. A lot of anime have just one straight man, but shifting it around between characters, including background characters/crowds, is one way to make the generic tsukkomi comedy the japs eat up more enjoyable.

I would have liked the series more if the characters were actually characters and not shitty 2 dimensional jokes.

Kazuma is a typical asshole character, mainly caring more about himself unless the plot demands otherwise (Like how he went to rescue darkness from getting married), Aqua is the series dumb character that get's a moment every couple of scenes, Magumin, well, is their really anything else to say besides "EXPLOSIONS xD"? And the only one who was pretty decent, Darkness, only because seeing the female be the masochist was pretty funny to me, but got old real quick.

Everything else the series has tried to do was done much more better by DEENS earlier adaption, Kore wa Zombie Desu ka, from character interaction, to moments that were ripped straight from the series.

First season was fun. I don;t make it past episode 3(?) of season two. Too much screaming (Aqua, Kazuma), Darkness still hadn't developed anything beyond her flat gag, and Megumin was still perfect

Megumin's confession is a great example of how konosuba messes with 'the rules ' and expectations. First they get interrupted in typical fashion....but Megumin doesn't mind and wanted to continue....Then Kaz spazes out and fails the 'smooth talker' test hard.....But Megumin only laughed and went on to explain all the things she loved about him....and how she knew he couldn't talk his way out of a romantic paper bag...She knows that about him and accepts it (along with the rest of his baggage). She genuinely loves him for who he is, rather then in spite of it.

There's potential in this idea.

I loved it but it could have been so much better. I don't know, I'm just craving a fantasy world exactly like the one that Konosuba portrays, and Kazuma is a highly enjoyable MC.
