Fanservice in FT is great though.

I'm honestly kind of surprised that Acnologia is the final boss rather than Zeref. He was being built up as the big bad before Acnologia was. Acnologia is just a random dragon slayer that fucks people up every now and then but for the most part does nothing.

Well, bleach and naruto had points in their run where they were legitimately good, naruto for the first 20-50 chapters was very good, and coasted till after the chunin exam before it got bad

bleach had something like 200 chapters or whenever the soul society arc ended for its great run, but it sank like a fucking brick after that, its first I want to say 3 volumes were also legitimately great,

fairy tale, while it didn't start out on the highs that were bleach or naruto, I read up through 400 some chapters of it and don't think it fell into the same lows either if it fell to begin with.

Every battle has no tension because you just know the good guys will win with bullshit/friendship power up out of nowhere, and even if the main cast "dies" you know they'll get revived by the end of the arc.

Not sure if I'm blinded by nostalgia or kid mindset when I read it in the past, but how did Mashima manage to write a better story for Rave Master when it was his first published manga?

Even the protagonist's "power" is more cool and interesting in Rave (a sword with 10 different forms that he unlocks as he journey through the world) compared to Natsu's breathing and punching with fire, and eventually doing a bigger scale of it with fancier name.

The mystery about the heroine, the world building and the villain organizations and powers was really great in Rave compared to Fairy Tail.

Fairy Tail did start out with similar ideas, At the beginning of the series Igneel was someone all we knew meant something to Natsu and he was mentioned right from the git-go.
Fairy Tail did set up some ideas and plot devices that were quickly dropped or rushed for the sake of it.
For better or worse the problem was probably that the series become more about ecchi and sexy girls than an epic journey.

I'm sure the whole Jellal thing was meant to be different to what we ended up getting while Erza was completely rewritten as a character.
