Third movie aside, should I go for the movies or the TV series?

Series. Second movie is a pretty straight adaptation with some new stuff but the first cuts a lot.

Movies cut too much characterization (especially Mami's). The visuals in the movie are a bit different (I wouldn't even necessarily say better, they're just grander and more trippy) but that's secondary. The movies also only run about 30 mins total less than the series (not counting the op/ed each time), so you're really not saving much time by watching them.

That said, once you've seen the series and have a good grasp of the characters, movies are good for a rewatch and some refreshing changes in music and visuals. I've rewatched it several times and I alternate between series and movies, though ultimately I prefer the series.

Fancutfags made a version of the TV show with some scenes replaced with the higher quality ones from the movies and also some of the changes to the soundtrack that the movies added. I would watch that then obviously Rebellion last.

There is no point to watching the first two movies. They merely summarize the TV show. The TV show itself is only 12 episodes, or roughly 6 hours. Watching both movies is about 3 hours. Take the 3 extra hours and just watch the damn show.

Going to reaffirm what others have said. The TV series has more in terms of substance, but the movies throw in stuff like new transformation sequences to keep it interesting. Also, the movie art is much, much better. I'd watch both: TV series > recap movies > 3rd movie
