Why should it be posted in the first place? Do we really need a large compilation like that? Archives exist and if someone really struggles to find something you can just give them the direct link to the thing in question. I'm not trying to say it's bad to give people a hand, but some of this is super obvious and doesn't even need to be there (general tags), the twitters you'd probably encounter if you follow any KF account at all or even by searching the general tag, and I doubt we really need an entire post on games that are either widespread (KF.exe) or a work in progress, when people can just post them if someone asks for help looking for them.

Not to mention it just solidifies the general meme. I don't really think anyone here wants to become a hated general well, more than we already are. I've seen generals where every thread just becomes consumed by shitposting and it's hard to make actual discussion. Then the threads become arguments about this kind of shit.

I'll stop talking about it now because this is exactly what I hated about some other threads I used to post in, though. Too much meta can be bad for the thread. Sorry for complaining in the first place.

Because the show is actually good and the style despite being simple has it's own charm, and if you pay attention you can see that it had actual effort put into it. The people who watch this realize that the contents of the show are more important than eye-candy.

People keep making this argument, "substance over style" like it has to be one or the other instead of both. I'm simply pointing out a weakness of the show. The style doesn't have any charm to it from a technical point of view. It just looks cheap, like there was no budget and they had to hire an artist who would work for little or nothing and was expected to work miracles.
The only thing about this show I find impressive is how successful it was despite lacking substance and looking really shoddy. There's nothing about it that really makes it distinctive or original compared to other animes that have more substance and style, but then again the animes that come to mind that are like that tend to come from big budget studios.

Here is an interview with Kotaro Ishidate about the shows success. Director on Tesagure (which the director of Kemono Friends was animation director for) who left Yaoyarozu after a falling out with someone there. He very much believes it was part of a strategy to intentionally subvert view expectations. He essentially says things like the child like dialogue and low budget CG worked to lower the viewers guard before the show drew viewers in with dropping hints at mysteries and revealing a rich deep setting and that the gap between that initial perception and the reality of the show is a part of the success. Then goes onto say that creating this effect in his opinion was no accident or fluke but a strategy. He also says that luck and timing also played a part in the success as with any big hit and that the fact they managed to keep the characters cute instead of coming of creepy or uncanny like a lot of CG does also worked in its favour.

Or you can take a look at this interview with Director Seiji Mizushima who praised the show stating the style of CG worked very well for the type of story and that it give the work a feeling of sincerity not found so much in big budget productions. He also seems to suggest that Kemono Friends might lead to a shift away from putting so much focus on visuals in anime and siwtch focus to a strong narrative with which the visual side can be less than stellar and you can still be successful.

It's all pretty simple really. The show is trying to appear innocent and nostalgic while concealing a mystery. The CG animation really helps with creating that feeling and giving it more impact. When the show was airing people were super confused about why there were abandoned theme parks at the end of what seemed like just a light hearted cheap but cute throwaway show about animal girls. It is kind of like "doing a Madoka" but getting nowhere near as dark and being much more subtle and long term about revealing your mysterious darker side.

I actually think the animation was a big part of its success. It played a big role in drawing attention to the show and worked well within the context of the show to enable the show to subvert viewer expectations. That isn't to discount other aspects of the show which undoubtedly played a big role too. But I don't think Kemono Friends was a success despite of its animation. It all worked together really well. If it was just another 2D animated low budget show I doubt it would have taken off like it did. The whole approach was a premeditated gamble. They intentionally created an innocuous seeming world to greater enhance the draw of the small parts of the mystery they dropped in and just didn't explain.

The whole aesthetic worked to the shows advantage on a storytelling level and that is what good animation is all about.

Good animation is not just about sakuga on the 1s, it can be that but thats not everything. Good animation is primarily animation that enhances storytelling. A virtuoso violin solo might be technically brilliant but that doesn't mean its going to be more affecting than an amateur singer songwriter playing some simple chord pattern on a guitar.

I've said this before but I still think the show was good from the first episode, it just takes most people (including myself) 3-4 episodes to get over the 'WTF am I watching' factor and realize that they like it.

Although in my case seeing the ED for the first time at the end of second episode made me curious enough to keep watching to see where there were going with this.
