Several reasons. Being cynical:
One is that, since it has the promotional aspect, Symphogear has another source of profit other than merchandise and BDs, meaning KR makes more money off of Symphogear than they'd make of most other projects, and Symphogear can stay profitable even though it's an anime-original property. Not to mention the possibility of making Symphogear events like lives.
It's also a great venue to promote the idols and Seiyuus working on it, since they can display a huge range. Symphogear has dramatic scenes, intense action scenes, singing, all of it wrapped in a single show. Minase Inori got her musical debut in GX if I am not mistaken.
It's also a surprisingly good seller. It's an anime-original series that got 3 seasons and the third season, GX, was even summer 2015's top seller by a country mile.
Now speaking as a fan of the series, It's just a load of fun and Chris is best girl.
The action scenes for the most part are cool, or inventive, or both. Chris does gun kata at some point, Hibiki suplexes a space shuttle, all of Hibiki's kung fu is actually traced from real people, Tsubasa is loads of fun with making swords rain, pop out of the ground, making a huge sword shield, etc.
Also, the staff look like they have so much fun, they put references and other fun things in the anime all the time. Like Tsubasa being asked to draw a noise, and then it turns out her drawing is a drawing Nana(her Seiyuu) made in an event. Or Chris goin "Yassai Mossai" or "Chossei!"

Managed to get GX done yesterday as well. You guys weren't kidding when you said it was shit, not only did it lack the moderate sense of balance I felt between the protagonists and antagonists that both previous seasons had (it was great seeing the antagonists getting their shit pushed every so often, in comparison GX felt like the protagonists were playing catch-up with Carol and her dolls all the fucking time) and their crazy pacing as well but Hibiki also spent most of the season moping around and didn't punch anywhere nearly enough things. Also the villains were dumb as fuck.
And I want to fuck Chris and Kirika.

As someone who was nervous about watching GX as well, just do it. It's pretty self-contained in its blandness and even then it's not one of the worst shows ever, just a step down from S1 and S2. I actually preferred GX over G. Ver was a terrible villain, the last boss was a bland shitty monster, Finè members were insufferable and completely retarded, Ver's anti-symphogear gas was complete shit, QUALITY in the final episodes.

GX was terrible for Top Dad and "but I don't want to punch murderous bastards !", but at least Carol was more engaging than Ver (still less than Finè) and she was the last boss, ex-Finè members were much better, there was no bullshit anti-fight weapon, and it got even better hype moments. The animation stayed good throughout the season even on TV, the dolls were cool ennemies, and the story made Ver actually interesting.

Ver was completely one-dimensional while both Finè and Carol were both actual characters with backstories on top wich gave much more weight to their motive. Meanwhile Ver is such a joke that Maria become the main villain, wich ruins everything even more because she's completely retarded in G. And then since Ver can't fight and Maria becomes an ally, they proceed to throw at us the least interesting last boss of the franchise so far.
And yes, without the Finè reincarnation subplot ruining Kirika and Shirabe's characters and Maria's "boohoohoo I have to be evul naw" Finè members were all able to become actually interesting characters in GX. Especially with the nice chemistry between Chris and Shirabe/Kirika, and Maria and Tsubasa. They did fuck up Maria's Ignition arc, wich was as bad as Hibiki's if not worse, but at least she was engaging for the rest of the season.
