Croix isn't a particularly good character. We don't know why she wanted to save magic, why was she so eager to be "the chosen one" herself or how she and Chariot became close friends in the first place. Diana is a more complex and well-rounded character with clearer motivations and development. I think they might have felt that since Diana and Croix were meant to be "parallels" they could just skimp a bit on Croix character? But that just doesn't work since Diana's situation feels very specific.

I just wonder if it would be right to just make S2 comfy after the season 1 climax. The world of magic has changed completely, Akko and Diana should be international celebrities and just going back to normal antics would feel odd. But at the same time, make another plot-driven season would force the staff to try to one-up the S1 finale with a more ridiculous threat than a magical super-nuclear-missle.

It's actually the perfect time, in my opinion. The characters are settled and the setting is now a bit more flexible because magic was restored. They can focus on other characters now(Lotte, Sucy, Team B, Hannah-Barbara, the teachers) while keep developing and having fun with the core three(Akko,Chariot and Diana), from time to time. Not to mention they can work more on the worldbuilding and the lore now.

We can even have more episodes a la Ep.3 or Ep8. The final would be a two parter if they know how to write it.

Those aren't flaws. That was them showing Diana's inner struggle. I think the closest you can get as a flaw was her jealousy towards Akko and even then that should have had more introspection in order to be actually perceived.

Diana is a good perfect character because you empathize with her, she has depth and complexity and her perfection turns into an endearing gag by the end of the show. Not every character needs to be written the exact same way.

Actually, now that i think about it, Diana's biggest flaw may be that she doesn't have one.
