I felt Miki's was the worst. Plotlines based on dumb characters being fucking dumb and misunderstanding something are always terrible. We're obviously supposed to know Miki was the dumb character in this, but I couldn't wrap my head around whether it's supposed to make us like her in the end or what. She pulled through for her performance and besides it being physically exerting, it didn't seem like that much of a hardship, what with her being characterised as an idol savant.

I feel like Chihaya's arc was by far the best, and this is in spite of the psychological-inability-to-sing thing being implausible, and the way it's implied she just hid away in her room a whole month being a bit ridiculous, not to mention how some of the awkward little standalone Chihaya scenes in the episodes that led up to it just felt jarringly inserted (the ones that worked: Haruka visiting her apartment, her getting that fan-letter from a young brother and sister, the scenes in Takane's episode) these are all quite big problems, so maybe I can't say it was objectively the best, but the rest of it worked so well that I forgive it, when she sang at the end of her episode it was so fucking cathartic. It took a few rewatches for me to not bawl my eyes out at it.

I remember Haruka's arc annoying me quite a lot when the show aired. I felt like it was being treated as more dramatic than it really deserved. I still kinda feel that way but on rewatches have softened on Haruka's position within the arc, her problems were a big issue for her and I think that's fine. Producer falling in the hole I don't really think was particularly necessary, and I felt the use of the Only Yesterday imaginary kids gimmick was a bit too much when it had been used much more efficiently and effectively at the very end of Chihaya's episode. Here it felt like an indulgence.
