Can someone help me understand why the hell Ymir went with Bert and Reiner knowing she was going to die? If she knew of the marley she'd know that those bastards wouldn't give a damn about saving her lover and she already knew Bert and Reiner were just flunkies, why did she buy that bullshit from mister split personality about "maybe we'd be able to protect christa"? She could have been concerned about the government torturing or deciding to kill her since she openly cooperated with Reiner and Bert. Her reason for cooperating with them was still justified because she assumed Paradis would get wiped.

Another concern could have been being forced to work for the corps, which could endanger Christa. When she initially revealed herself as a shifter, she was ready to die, so that would have removed that threat, just as a side note.

The government torturing and/or killing her doesn't really make any sense since Ymir, at no point in time had ever killed another soldier or civilian, saved the lives of her comrads and would've been willing to give them valuable information for free. She probably would've been jailed but her friends in the core would've vouched for her and Erwin probably would've convinced them to let her stay and fight the the survey corps just as they got to keep eren.

Plus Ymir could've also said I'll work with the corps if historia resigns if she's afraid of her dying. To which Erwin would have no issue since a second titan shifter > cute teenager

You think he didn't know? He saw Eren and Mikasa in serious danger. For whatever reason, Eren was not transitioning to a titan and Mikasa was not going god mode, meaning that they physically couldn't. In that moment he decided that it was better for him to die than them. Not only because he cared for them personally, but because they were objectively useful to humanity. He was never a great fighter, but he knew he could buy the two of them a couple minutes at least.

Since then, he understandably felt he owed Grisha a lot, but when Grisha's wife was going to die, he was unable to save her due to his own fear and lack of ability. That was eating away at him for five years so he had to try to at least avenge her.
