People also use sales generally as a metric for "This is how many people liked the show enough to dish out money for a BD". But the biggest reason why people are making fun of sales because it's an original anime produced by Aniplex. It gets people like Sawano on the team and a name like Hiroe to advertise it (although in this case he actually wrote the story), uses the seiyuu they often like to use and promote and in the end it flops.

Sales are also "more tangible" than retweets or fanart, and we almost never get to hear how merch of a certain show sold, so BD sales are used as a shitposting metric. And another reason why people are making fun of it because the story isn't as good as "pretentious" stuff you see posted in 3x3 threads, it's a very simple story but it takes itself too seriously and makes the exposition needlessly complicated, so it's turning off it's main audience, teenagers.

I fucking hate this show so much. Amazing character designs and soundtrack and it's the most poorly written and executed piece of shit I've ever seen.

Every single time it starts to get interesting and there's some revelation instead of ramping up the pace it's back to an entire episode of just dumping exposition no-one fucking cares about on the viewer. There's so much potential in the premise, the lore and the atmosphere but it's so wasted on melodramatic MC I don't give a fuck about. And this is coming from a guy who liked Guilty Crown.

Eh, in my opinion it has some problems which couldn't have been avoided when you're meshing characters from so many different genres. Compare one of the key visuals with a fanart that has only Rui. The designs for each character alone and their world look cool, but when you put them together it's bland. The opening part where it shows each of their worlds is cool, but once they're all together in a normal city it loses the sense of wonder.

Otherwise, Aoki is pretty uninspired and doesn't use the fact that this is an anime to its full potential, the Mamika battle scene was good but otherwise the directing is pretty static.

ReCreators is surely inconsistent as fuck, at the lowest points its lower than possible but at it's high points it's great. The main problem is poor pacing and you could also argue about infodumps, although after watching people being confused about obvious stuff like "Why Alice was shocked when she struck Meteora/impaled Selesia?" you start to think they are necessary.
