It's also not explained why the knife got through the barrier. I mean, presumably/ostensibly because he had his guard down because of the eye thing, but it doesn't make sense why a drop in his guard would let that happen - unless he's actively causing the field to work of his own will, which raises a different question.

He had the brain of a child, but the body of a supersoldier. It was actually explained pretty well what the fuck his problem was.
