Just finished season 2 and I love the show but I feel like I either totally missed some things or I'm just retarded. I did watch 80% of it while sleep deprived so that might be a factor. I feel like I missed something with the entire character of Ymir. I had no idea what the fuck was going on with her flashbacks, she's apparently an orphan turned goddess because of her bloodline, she is helpful to the cult people but gets found out and then turned into a titan and thrown outside the walls? After that I completely missed how she was apparently saved by Reiner and Bert outside the walls and given the ability to turn human again. Is this supposed to be a mystery still? Did I miss something? I understand everything else with Reiner having split personalities / conflicting feelings and I get that him and the other undercover titans have their own agenda they've been tasked with by people we haven't seen yet, it's just Ymir that I feel like came out of nowhere.

Zombie stories are almost always about a small group of survivors. Maybe they'll come across a bigger settlement every now and then, but there's always the sense almost nothing is left.

In SnK on the other hand you essentially had an entire nation left alive. They had a fully established society with a proper government and military force and all that. The idea of the last of humanity working together was more interesting than the normal small group of survivors you get in post apocalyptic stories. Plus it was sort of 19th century post apocalyptic instead of modern day.

So to start your whole point is now kind of moot but you're looking for an escape goat that doesn't make sense. Bert and co. are loyal to their families and friends, we've seen that much in recent chapters. We have no idea how loyal they are to the Maerley Government and whether they're with Zeke and his plans or simply following orders, though they're probably nieve on the subject.

I didn't say they did it to destroy all the eldians on Paradis. Well, that's why they FIRST did it, because they thought the Walldians were monsters, but then they found out otherwise. After that, they did not act out of hate but COWARDICE. They knew they had been lied to all their lives, and that their actions thus far had damned hundreds of thousands to horrible deaths. And yet, they persisted. They stuck by their actions and tried the same fucking thing again, because they were scared of doing anything but taking the path of least resistance. and in the process killed many more people in what they perceived was the best path to saving their own hides.
