Well, I just finished watching this series for the first time, and it really pulled itself together at the end after having Berserk tier animation in Episode 1, I'm glad I stuck on for the long haul.

Questions though:

1. Is Kaban basically kid Mirai since the hair in the hat at the end was hers?

2.Did Serval get eaten by a Cerulean before and that's why she didn't remember Mirai?

3. Was the Black Cerulean the sole reason why they needed to close the park in the past? They were able to defeat it present day so I'm kind surprised they were not able to kill it back then when they had Mirai who actually knew better then amnesiac Kaban.

4. Is Japari Park just that one island? Lucky said before the other islands could have Friends on them too, so is it actually a collection of islands? If so, maybe we'll face the Cerulean King or something on the next island.

The animation didn't improve particularly at all from the 1st episode besides a few fixes like the bus wheels turning in the OP. There was just one particularly awkward scene in the beginning with the running.

It just becomes less of an issue as you continue watching and start to understand what the show is going for and get drawn into the characters and mystery itself.

1. Just a human friend formed from Mirai's hair.
2. Not really entirely clear, there is speculation based around that and it is a possibility but don't know exactly.
3. There is all sorts of speculation around what happened based on alternative tellings of the story in other media and the guidebooks but the answer is we don't know actually know for certain exactly what has happened in the past.
4. Multiple islands.

They beat it in part because the Friends were kind of familiar with it already. Brown Bear and her hunters had learned about the Ceruleans and how to fight them. Tsuchinoko knew that pouring water on it would cause it to harden like lava. That kind of thing.

In retrospect after watching the series most assume that scene was supposed to be referencing the tablets of the four gods which were buried beneath ground. The way it was translated in that line just makes it sound like an underground complex or something. I think it's heavily implied that this was the site that at least one of the big dogs was defeated. At the end of Episode 12 someone remarks that the fact that it turned into lava rock explains why that's found all over the island.

You also see other things like the destroyed bridge with a Japari Bus on either side. I think that was possibly the outcome of a high-speed chase or something.

I think they should just leave the backstory stuff just vague and mysterious forever like it is now. The whole thing seems like it could become a convoluted mess quite easily unless they just ignore the media timelines for the other parts of the franchise and have similar events like they have hinted at in the guidebooks with things like the Owl's speculating about Serval generations they don't know about in universe, and showing concept designs for Cerulean's and the four Gods and so on.

Having an open Japari Park with Mirai in a position of power in the manga. Having Mirai being a rookie leading Friends against the Cerulean Queen in the game. Having Mirai lead a team by helicopter to save Japari Park in the anime. Then fitting all that with the Friends there having no real knowledge of humans at all besides vague legends and all the damage to the park. It is just too much to fit together consistently.

Also I think its interesting that the guidebooks never really present anything as being absolutely factual to the TV series as such. They show concept designs which clearly aren't part of the show, then explain certain functions/mechanics like Kemonoplasm, then have Owl's literally speculating about Serval generations, then talk about things like whole varieties of Ceruleans and the Cerulean Queen.

It's almost as if what they are doing with the guidebooks is just throwing out a whole load of lore that is associated with the series without confirming anything as fact to give people speculation fuel without committing to anything as fact. Then if anything seems particularly popular it might be a direction in which they can develop the next season of the show.

Exactly, there is stuff there that has no basis in the show presented dryly, stuff that has basis in the show presented as unconfirmed speculation, stuff that has basis in the show but isn't explained in the show explained in there, then stuff that seems different to the show just presented dryly too. It's all just mixed in with nothing being entirely clearly signposted to differentiate the parts that should be taken as canon fact, are just ideas, are discarded concepts and so on. It seems to be intentionally confusing so that you can't be entirely 100% sure exactly what should be taken as factual to the TV universe and what shouldn't.

1. No. Kaban is a human Friend. Please understand what that means.

2. We don't know how much time has passed since the days of Mirai and her Serval, but most signs point to a lot. After being eaten by a cerulean, animals go back to how old they were before becoming Friends so it's possible they're the same serval, or some sort of closely related serval, but there's still the problem of the time gap, and the fact that we don't know if the same serval should have the same voice.

Even when he draws what are supposed to be characters with a mature curvy body he gives them a weird almost childlike shoulder/waist/hip ratio and annorexic looking body definition.
