I really liked Teshima in the last few episodes. It felt like a natural progression of a mediocre background character with no feats or accomplishments suddenly being forced into relevance. It doesn't automatically make him hyper competent or capable. His superpower is just pushing himself harder to the point it's borderline suicidal. Problem is this isn't really something that can work a second time and it'll lose a lot of weight if he's able to keep up during the rest of the race in any metric.

On the other hand I have no idea what they tried to do with Aoyagi. Goes from the quiet guy to casually talking all the time like it's no big deal and even screaming. Leaving notes for Kaburagi was almost a nice way to further his character, but it's ruined by him already being butchered. He might as well be a different person.
