It wasn't. It was a 6/10 show. It started pretty good but after a while each character's shtick got old. Especially fucking Darkness, who literally gets exactly one joke in the entire series and it's never done any better than it was early on. She alone drags the series down a point or two. The endearingly inconsistent animation that we got in season one also turned into annoyingly inconsistent animation in season two when there was much less of an excuse for it.

The seiyuus did an awesome job. I especially have to give props to Jun (Kazama) and Sora (Aqua). I don't think Kazama would've been as entertaining without Jun's improv. And And Sora was able to impress me with how good her range was from Aqua's normal, smug, and autistic screeching voice. Everyone did great, but the two took it to another level.

Did you even watch Gabriel Dropout? Literally every scene attempted humour in some way. I barely ever found it funny and dropped it early on, but it was constantly trying to be funny.
Maidragon is a way more slow and relaxed show, but there's still plenty of comedy even in the quiet moments. Just because the comedy isn't shoved in your face with characters screaming at the top of their lungs and wacky shennanigans 24/7 doesn't mean it isn't there.

People seem to be disappointed that the author turned out to be a male. I thought that the author might have been a woman at first, since the MC was a jerk and the girls were more like real women than anime waifubait. But once I realized that Kazuma was a betafag like every other isekai MC and that he would remain a virgin forever, I knew the author was a guy. People fuck in stories written by girls, because the men aren't pussies and the girls aren't pure. If Konosuba was written by a girl, Kazuma would have fucked them all by now.
