The last time I rode a Harley was a few years ago but back then plastic was taboo on them. Even their entry level Sportster was all iron and glass. What little plastic did exist was serious shit, thick and heavy. Careful anon, they're addicting. Ride one and you'll want one.

Riding jeans are a meme. If you can afford nothing else, sure, but for the price of ones with actual impact pads you could buy proper textile kit.
I recommend lurking Revzilla or subscribing to the local cycle gear (store) circular. Specifically cg often does bundle deals (buy this adventure jacket, get pants and helmet free), and two months ago they were selling entire one-piece race suits for ~220 USD.
Or, since it's summer, just buy kneepads w/ sliders and wear your cotton ones. Most "riding jeans" are literally Kevlar knees on regular pants.
