It would've been immensely more satisfying to see some elaborate machination L had put together slowly unfold and expose Light after he was convinced he had finally won.
Pulling out a random duo of genius children that are "so much like L!" was such a cop-out I almost dropped the whole thing. Especially when Near basically got as up to speed as L had been despite only being on the case for a fraction of the time. Talk about wasted potential.
