Evangelion also isn't terribly original in its themes. It was inspired by Childhood's End, and it's not even the first mecha anime to do so(Ideon did it first).

Deconstructing a mecha protagonist mean we would see all the problems that arised in his life BECAUSE he is piloting the mecha.

However, Shinjis problems arised much before he started piloting the Eva, and the act of piloting dont cause him that much stress compared to the things his father and friends do to him and his crippling depression.

If "piloting mechas" was changed to "professional cooking competition", 90% of the series would still be mostly the same.

What? EoE was almost all about Shinji not wanting to pilot because of the strife it caused

EVA counts, madoka kinda counts but it still exists to sell magical girl figs, and OPM doesn't at all count, it has some parody characters but it's too straight action to be counted as a deconstruction of the superhero genre

Moreover Shinji doesn't particularly have to muse about the suffering of war because he is not fighting in a war against his fellow human beings but to defend Earth form weird non-humanoid alien thingies.
