I've never understood how squatting is considered exercise, it's easier than sitting in a chair. You'd have to be one fat fuck for squatting to seem like strenuous work.

If you don't have your musculature trained or you aren't a slav, squatting for extended periods can be difficult.
Maintaining form over high repetitions of bodyweight can work your muscles pretty well because it's a compound exercise.
But really most people consider the squat the king of exercises when its used in conjuction with putting a few hundred pounds on your shoulders.
