I don't think /a/ would be forfeit to generals, I think it'd stay as it is presently. There's usually maybe 2-4 threads for older stuff on the board at a time.

Not OP. I often make threads about old anime, even put effort into the OP and rarely get more than a dozen replies. And it's not me. When I make a thread about something popular, it often goes beyond 600 replies.

You can't talk about lesser known anime on /a/. I'd love to make an "unpopular anime general" to give anime other than Naruto, One Piece, Jojo, Re:Zero and other trash a chance but that would trigger the shit out of everyone.

Wrong. Take /u/ as example. I am not even into yuri but if I want to talk about Madoka or Nanoha I can get better quality posts over there. And if I want to talk about something like Blue Drop or Simoun /a/ thread will be shit and die quickly while over there you can have long and great threads about them. Unfortunately /u/ is very narrow and most unpopular series can't even be discussed there. But I'd say /u/ is a great example of a slow board that can have better anime discussion on /a/ as long as they don't talk about lesbian shit and post porn.

I didn't visit /u/ for years because it was a red board and yuri didn't interest me. Till I looked for anime discussion via archives and discovered that /u/ had some amazing threads about certain anime that /a/ has never talked about in the past 10 years.

The truth is that old anime is crap and nobody cares about it other than for nostalgia.
Anime is possibly the most disposable entertainment ever made, so there is no point or value in going back.

I constantly see this meme that retro threads are unpopular but that just seems like a lie people made up to justify this argument. I believe you when you say that you don't get many replies but to pretend that's how things ALWAYS are is pretty disingenuous. It pretty much all comes down to timing and whether there are enough people on who want to discuss the topic. Of course at any given time there will be more people discussing seasonalshit than retro anime because most people here are casual as fuck, but that's not a problem with the board, it's a personal issue. If you want to discuss it, the power is in your hands. You can't regulate discussion because you dislike what's being talked about, though, that's what hiding threads is for.
