I really like Shoukoku no Altair manga but the adaptation has no hope even with Furuhashi since it's coming in a year when MAPPA decided to go nuts and crash and burn. And it's two-cour, done consecutively with second half of Virgin Soul and Kakegurui. By the times September comes, MAPPA will be in flames.

Arslan is more fairytale inspired, Altair is more gritty. Arslan has a "cleaner" feel. Altair's art looks goofy at first. Altair desu has a better story, but I think Arslan has better characters. There's also Persia versus Turkiye, and ancient versus Ottomon age.

Heh now that you mention it Mahmut's surname Tughrul is the name of the founder of the Grand Seljuk Khanate. And his name is reference to some legendary eagle in Turkic mythology. His successor Alp Arslan, the one who ruled Persia and opened the gateway of Turkic conquest of Anatolia after Battle of Manzikert who is also considered as hero.

So yeah, Shahname more or less influenced by Seljuks but i get your point the story being mainly a Persian
