i fucked up and watched the evangelion rebuild movies before

might as well just start with episode 1
although the beginning is going to be literally the same as the first rebuild with a few extra things

asuka gets a lot more character development in the original series
it looked in 2.0 like she had a lot of potential in 3.0 but then 3.0 had 0 character development for anyone (and really 0 development in general)

A lot of the TV scenes are gonna look really underwhelming now, but it's still a fun ride.

Rebuild 3.0 is pretty much a new story, the TV series doesn't go quite as off the rails

Yeah, start with episode 1, there won't really be any issue.
You don't understand the Asuka meme because she, like the rest of the Rebuild cast, suffers from serious underdevelopment, so the only thing that can decide whether you like them or not is how inherently attracted you are to their surface characteristics. Which isn't to say you'll like Asuke more than Rei after watching NGE, but you'll at least appreciate her as a character.
And maybe you will like her more, like a true gentleman of patrician taste.

Well, for one, in Rebuild, Asuka and Kaworu never meet and become a couple like they do in the series. This has a substantial effect on the plot.

I did the same thing, the original is far superior.
Nothing comes close to the last two episodes+EoE in terms of existential dread in all of animation, hence the tumbling down memes. The angels are also a lot more interesting to watch through multiple reruns and figure out what they were individually planning.
