No it's true. The trailer for it on youtube has since been blocked though. The movie was supposed to conclude the series. There was supposed to be a time skip after the events of Mew and Mewtwo where Ash and Misty (Satomi and Kasumi) were grown up and were married. That is not "lets continue the series past the tournament".

The writers decided not to bring Misty back to the cast somewhere back in 2004, when we were halfway into Hoenn. They then stopped her cameos entirely by 2005 and she never appeared in the anime ever again after that beyond flashbacks.

It's pretty funny when you stop to realize how short-lived Misty's character in the anime really was. She was only around for 5 years, and axed at what was essentially the very beginning of the anime's history. The writers saw after how quickly popular May became, that they had no reason to bother bringing Misty back, so they never did.

It's kind of ironic Misty's cameos stopped the moment Ash came home from Hoenn. They brought May back for Battle Frontier and from that point onward we never had a real Misty appearance for the next decade worth of episodes.

That is true. In SM's case, they recorded a new dub where all the characters kept their Japanese names.
A few anons did like it, but I couldn't tell the girls apart by voice and Luna didn't have a matronly British accent, so I didn't bother much with it.

It would be very hard to get a new dub done, especially since Americans have the old 4kids dub ingrained into their skulls that even when watching new episodes in Japanese, Satoshi will always just be Ash to them.
